Our Teachers

At Butler, we pride ourselves on our dedicated and friendly teachers, many of whom have been with us for several years! Get to know them here.

Miss Laurie, Director and Head Teacher

Miss Laurie holds a Bachelors Degree in Education, and has also completed some of her Masters coursework in Early Childhood Education. She has been teaching for 13 years, 8 of which she taught here at Butler. She was welcomed into the Director's role at Butler in January 2016. In addition to teaching early childhood, she was a ballet instructor. Laurie also home schooled two of her own children up until 4th grade! She is a mother of four children, and a member of St. John's, where she teaches Sunday School. She enjoys dancing, horseback riding, reading, walking dogs, and doll collecting. She has taught various ages, but the preschool age is her favorite.

Miss Christine, Head Teacher

Christine has a Masters Degree in Language and Learning from the College of New Rochelle. She has been teaching for a total of 19 years, with experience in grade levels ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade. She has been teaching early childhood here at Butler Nursery School for 11 years.  She most enjoys teaching when she sees a child's face light up from learning something new, or mastering a new skill, or from just getting a hug. She enjoys being part of the lives of young children as they gain new knowledge. In her personal time, Christine enjoys reading, long walks, the tranquility of gardening, and listening to good music.

Miss Jackie, Head Teacher

Miss Jackie has a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Concordia College. She has been teaching for 20 years, and 18 of those years have been right here at Butler! Miss Jackie has been a member of the parish of St. John's since she was born, and her mother was once the parish secretary. As a young person, she used to help out the nursery school that was previously housed here. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to teach early childhood education here, so when Butler Nursery School opened she was one of the first ones in the door! Jackie enjoys watching students make new friends, learn to solve problems on their own, and begin to repeat what they have been taught.  Her interests include relaxing at the beach, reading, tending to her vegetable garden, and a good cup of coffee.

Miss Monna, Assistant Teacher

Monna has a Bachelor's Degree in Remedial Reading. She has a wealth of occupational experience that includes producing professional theatre, and working with Episcopal youth, as well as the adults who minister to them. She has been teaching at Butler for 5 years. She enjoys getting to know each child's individual personality, and accompanying them as they grow to be curious, energetic young people.  Her personal interests are reading and acting character roles.

Miss Janet, Assistant Teacher

Miss Janet has been teaching for 25 years, with experience in infant and toddler care. She has been here at Butler for 12 years! A life long Yonkers resident, she enjoys household projects like painting, and she can't turn down a good bargain, so she loves flea market shopping.  She likes to travel, especially to the beach. She recently welcomed her first granddaughter, who she loves spending time with. Miss Janet enjoys watching her students develop new skills through play, music, and art. She is very proud when they make new friends and is always amazed to see how much they grow throughout the course of the year.
